Paving is still one of the most important and complex parts of any landscaping project, and we've got that more than covered.
For a homeowner, a paving project is often a large investment. For this reason, it’s very important to get the materials and methodology right the first time in order to avoid costly rectification work and structural issues.
Residential and commercial paving methodologies follow the same basic principles with a few key differences. Residential pavements don’t require the same level of reinforcement of the subbase and bedding materials as commercial pavements (which receive a much higher load of foot traffic and exposure to wear and tear). However, great care still needs to be taken with residential paving projects to ensure that the paving structure is sound, not susceptible to movement / cracking, and properly prepared and waterproofed to ensure the paving doesn’t lift away from the bedding materials, causing drumminess (hollow-sounding pavers due to the paver lifting away from all or part of the bedding below) or other structural imperfections.
Residential paving can be installed on a sand base (dry lay) or a concrete base (wet lay). Wet lay paving is either installed on a mortar bed or affixed directly to the reinforced concrete slab using tile adhesive. The installation method that is right for your paving depends on the type of material that is being installed and the wear and tear that the pavement will receive (for example, are you paving a driveway, or alongside a pool area?). As it is critically important to make the right choices when it comes to paving around your home and garden, it’s best to work with experts who understand best practice installation and who have experience with a variety of different types of paving products and materials.
